Kirsten Dunst opens up about rehab stint

Kirsten Dunst has opened up about her stint in the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah. In the December 2010/January 2011 issue of BlackBook magazine, the actress claimed she checked into rehab two years ago because she was battling depression — not a drink or drug problem.

“I know what it’s like to lose yourself, to no longer know the difference between right or wrong,” she said.

Dunst, 28, says coming to terms with her own personal demons allowed her to more fully embody her character in upcoming movie All Good Things.

“I was ready to play something like that,” she explains. “I had been living life on the surface, emotionally, and I was feeling really vulnerable, so I was prepared to do anything at that point.’”

“I used to assume that I’d [continue acting] forever, and then there came a point in my life when I was like, ‘Why am I doing this at all?’” she added. “My friends and family were put in a position where they had to defend me, and it was an awful time.

“On a personal level, I would talk to anybody about it, but not on a public level.

“If I do that, then the next person feels like they can ask me about it, and the person after that, until everyone then feels entitled to ask me about it, and that’s not coming from a good place.”

Dunst recently revealed she loved watching prostitutes tout for businesses when she was younger.

The actress used to ask her mother to drive past “hookies” on the streets in the Meatpacking District of New York City when she was a child going to auditions, but believes people in the Big Apple are less likely to see such shady dealings these days.

“I remember when I was younger, driving around New York with my mom and going to auditions. I’d be like, ‘Mom drive us by the hookies!’ Hookers. I called them hookies,” she said.

“There was one street in the Meatpacking District where they all lined up. So I was definitely a part of the dangerous New York when I was younger.

“But now I feel like New York is so safe. I can walk down the street by myself. When I was younger, my mom was like, ‘Hold my hand!’ It was always a little sketchy. But now Times Square is like Disneyland.”
