Hilary Swank glad she got fired from 90210
Hilary Swank says being fired from Beverly Hills 90210 was the best thing that ever happened to her.
The Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby star — who was cast as single mother Carly Reynolds in the hit show, but her character was written out after just 16 episodes in 1998 — says after losing her jobs she went on to land the lead role in Boys Don’t Cry, a part that would win the actress a Best Actress Oscar.
“It is weird. There’s a lot of luck involved in a career, so I’m thankful I got fired off of 90210 because three months later I got Boys Don’t Cry,” she said.
“I wouldn’t have gotten that movie had I stayed on the show, so it was always about trusting fate and learning about the business along the way.”
Meanwhile, Swank has claimed that being famous has ruined all of her fun.
“I think what happens to actors when they become famous is they become more solitary,” she said.
“It’s harder to go out just because of the nature of it. That’s one of the biggest detriments because when you start losing touch with people, you lose touch with life and what you’re trying to create.
“I love traveling and I love taking public transportation when I can and being with people because that’s what I do. That’s my job but it is hard to still do that.”
