Damon Albarn’s Glastonbury hopes

Damon Albarn hopes his Glastonbury set with Gorillaz will draw in some famous faces. The 42-year-old frontman admits he is concerned that many of the guest artists who appear on the group’s current LP plastic beach will be unable to join them on stage at the world-famous music event in Somerset, South England, later this month.

He told Radio Times magazine: “I can’t expect everyone to traipse round the world with us all the time.”

However, he admitted he is hopeful Lou Reed – who sing with the band on `Some Kind of Nature’ – will be able to perform with them.

Rap artist Snoop Dogg – who is already appearing at the festival and also features on `Plastic Beach’ – as well as former Happy Mondays star Shaun Rider, who voiced Gorillaz’ hit `Dare’, are also hoped to appear alongside the cartoon group.

Damon – who reunited with his former Blur bandmates last year to headline Glastonbury – said Gorillaz will “come to life” at Glastonbury.

He explained: “Glastonbury is magical. Gorillaz will come to life on that stage, but we wish Bono all the best.”

Gorillaz were last-minute additions to the Glastonbury bill after headliners U2 were forced to pull out due to singer Bono suffering a spinal injury.
