Jenna Coleman to do Victoria 'for some time to come'
OHMYGOSSIP — Jenna Coleman will play the queen in ‘Victoria’ “for some time to come.”
The 30-year-old actress received rave reviews for her portrayal of the late monarch in the first instalment of the ITV period drama last year and, although she’s no doubt wanted by a number of television executives, screenwriter Daisy Goodwin is adamant that there’s still a long way to go in the story and the brunette beauty is on board.
Speaking to the RadioTimes.com, Daisy explained: “I think we’ve got quite a long way to go before we need to recast Jenna; we’re moving quite slowly through the 1840s. We haven’t even caught up with her real age, so I think Jenna will be on our screens for some time to come.”
The second series of the show went into production in February as Jenna reunited with her co-stars Tom Hughes, David Oakes, Nell Hudson and Eve Myles, to name a few, in London.
ITV bosses were given the go ahead to do another series last year – just weeks after its debut on screen last September – and a festive special this year is also in the pipeline.
And it seems there may be more series on the way as Daisy still has ideas up her sleeve that she’d like to put into a script over the next few years.
Jenna explained previously: “We’re doing season two and then it’s a question of where we go from there. There’s no shortage of story. You don’t want to go through it too quickly. There are nine children to have, so there is a long way to go.”
The brunette beauty previously admitted she was sceptical about taking on the lead role, but has now admitted that it was the story that sucked her in to the part.
She said: “People know certain things about her but the first three years of her reign haven’t been told before on screen. It’s quite modern as well. It’s about a young girl who had a huge personality and was surrounded by people who expected her to fail.
“She was the most powerful woman in the world at 18 years of age when women didn’t even have the vote. It’s got huge appeal on top of it being a true story and a great love story – and what they’ve achieved, capturing the Victorian era with beautiful set designs and costumes, has been fantastic.”
