Lauren Harries was raped 'weeks' after gender reassignment surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Harries was raped just “weeks” after she underwent gender reassignment surgery.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star decided to have the operation – also known as a sex change – to take her from a male to a woman in 2001 following years of bullying which, in turn, lead to severe depression and then to her attempting to kill herself several times.
But, despite the procedure making her feel like she was being “reborn”, the blonde star was struck down with heartache shortly afterwards as she fell victim to a horrific sexual assault.
Speaking to the Mail On Sunday newspaper, she said: “It was very traumatic – straight after surgery. I was lonely and I was in a bar and met a nice-looking man who paid me lots of compliments. He said he had heard me on the radio and that I was very brave.
“He introduced me to his wife. I thought they were just fans. I ended up drinking with them – I was lonely and vulnerable. At the end of the evening, the man took me back to my hotel and raped me. I never reported it to the police – I never thought it would do any good. I suppose I thought they might think I had asked for it. Admittedly, I did not always make the best choices after my transition. I went out on my own to test myself and at times it was quite brutal. But it made me realise that I should concentrate on my career and not be out searching for Mr Right.”
But the abuse didn’t stop there, as three years after the surgery, in 2005, the 38-year-old star was attacked along with her father and one of her brothers at their home in Cardiff, Wales, by a gang of men, who launched bricks through their windows and shouted transphobic slurs.
She explained: “It was horrible and frightening. We had bricks lobbed through every window of our house and we had death threats. We had about five or six years of hate thrown at us.”
Despite the negativity she endured after the operation, Lauren doesn’t regret the transition because she felt “trapped” as a boy and now hopes to find love and be seen as a woman.
