OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ resident Dot Branning could lose her job in her new story line.
The Walford legend – played by June Brown – is at risk of getting the sack after it was revealed the iconic Bridge Street launderette was being turned into a dry cleaners by off-screen owner Mr. Papadopolous.
And Dot was told she will need to reapply for a job if she wants a chance at keeping her position.
In the episode aired on Tuesday (27.09.16), customer Shirley Carter asked Dot if she was OK when after she has received the news from her boss on the phone.
Dot replied: “Well, that depends on the fabric content of your wardrobe. Mr Papadopoulos Junior, he’s having the place turned into a dry cleaners.
“Market forces, new consortium, moving with the times – all that old balderdash.
“Well, it appears that I’m going to be interviewed for my own job.”
The Bridge Street launderette has been a part of ‘EastEnders’ since its opening episode in 1895, and the change will no doubt come as a shock to the other Walford residents, not least because now they’ll all have to buy their own washing machines and do their laundry at home.
Fans of the show took to Twitter after the episode aired to vent their frustration at the decision to sack Dot, saying it was “scary” to think of an ‘EastEnders’ world without Dot at the launderette.
One user wrote: “#Eastenders Life without dot at the launderette is a scary thought…XX 🙂 (sic)”
