Jada Pinkett Smith looking forward to Oscar change

OHMYGOSSIP — Jada Pinkett Smith has thanked Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs after she promised “big changes” following the backlash over the lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominations.

The 44-year-old actress – who recently announced she would not be attending this year’s ceremony because of the lack of diversity in the nominees – has spoken out again to thank Academy boss Cheryl Boone Isaacs for promising “big changes” in the wake of the backlash.

She tweeted: “I would like to express my gratitude to the Academy, specifically Cheryl Boone Isaacs, (pt 1) for such a quick response in regard to the issue at hand. I look forward to the future. (pt 2)(sic)”

Meanwhile, activist filmmaker Michael Moore will be joining Jada and Spike Lee in taking a stand by not attending the ceremony. He said: “I support @jadapsmith and @SpikeLee and will join with them. I believe the Academy will fix this. Thank you President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.(sic)”

Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg won’t be tuning in to watch. In an Instagram video captioned “F**k da Oscars (sic)”, he said: “All these great movies and all this great s**t y’all keep stealing from us…F**k you!”

And 50 Cent has urged the ceremony’s host Chris Rock to quit his presenting role. Alongside a picture of the comic, he posted: “Chris please do not do the Oscar awards. You mean a lot man, don’t do it. Please.”

However, Whoopi Goldberg has argued against the boycott, insisting the problem goes beyond Oscar season and snubbing the ceremony would be a “slap in the face” for Chris.

Following an impassioned speech on how there is “no place for Black movies”, she said on ‘The View’: “Chris Rock is the host of the Academy Awards and so to boycott him seems just as bad as what everybody is saying.

“We have this conversation every year and it p***es me off. Boycotting doesn’t work and it’s also a slap in the face to Chris Rock.”
