Saldavor Perez creates Mindy-inspired coat collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Costume designer Salvador Perez has designed a capsule collection of coats inspired by Mindy Kaling’s character Mindy Lahiri.

The costume designer on Mindy Kaling’s ‘The Mindy Project’ has created six statement coats, versions of which will all be worn by the chief character on the Hulu show and sold on Gilt.com.

He told Us Weekly: “One of the first things I started making for Mindy on The Mindy Project were the fun coats I couldn’t find on the market. The fans have been requesting them for years, so I wanted to make them available to purchase.”

“Gilt really let me design and manufacture the coats the way I make them for the show, with the same lavish fabrics and trim details. I would love to continue making the looks available to fans.”

While Mindy’s style can be quite over the top, Salvador recommends fans pair the bright coats with more subdued outfits.

He explained: “I paired the aqua and gold coat on Mindy with an aqua and gold sari. For Mindy, it was so chic, but I would also pair the aqua and gold coat with a black sweater and jeans.

“Since Mindy’s a new mom, I think everyone expected her to be more casual. But Mindy [Kaling] said she wants us to bring the character’s fashion game up even more! We love discovering new brands and creating fashion moments on the show. The costumes have become [just as much of] a main character that everyone loves.”
