Jamie Lee Curtis stands by Seth MacFarlane criticism
OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Freaky Friday’ actress Jamie Lee Curtis has insisted she stands by her criticism of Seth MacFarlane after she blasted him earlier this year for his controversial performance hosting the Academy Awards earlier this year.
Jamie Lee Curtis stands by her criticism of Seth MacFarlane. The ‘Freaky Friday’ star blasted the ‘Family Guy’ creator earlier this year after she was offended by his performance as host of the Academy Awards earlier this year.
Asked about her reaction to his “boobs song” skit – which recounted nude scenes by female actresses on screen – she stood by her opinion it was “inappropriate” for the occasion.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “As we are learning in everything, numbers are the only thing people care about, and maybe ever cared about. I mean, it’s a business, I get that.
“Seth MacFarlane is a talented guy. I can’t imagine he’s going to be hiring me any time soon, but that’s okay. I wish the guy well, but I felt it was inappropriate in that setting in that moment. Maybe I was channelling my sweet mother.”
The 54-year-old actress insisted while it was simply “an opinion”, she doesn’t think she will have been alone in her feelings about Seth’s skit.
She said: “It was just a point of view. That’s all. It is what it is … We’re a country of people who agree to disagree.
“Look at the way we are today, with our government … So it was nothing more than expressing an opinion. Probably I was speaking to and for a group of people that felt the same kind of feeling I did.”
When she initially lashed out earlier this year, she said: “The “boob” song, as it will be known in perpetuity, may go down as the highest-rated Oscar number in history, but at what cost?
“I’m sure public executions would get big ratings too, but is that what the Oscars are truly about? Ratings? When did they turn into a ‘roast?'”
