Olivia Wilde wanted ‘real’ role
OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Wilde always wanted to play a “real” woman with an emotional range so was delighted to land a part in ‘Drinking Buddies’.
Olivia Wilde always wanted to play a “real” woman. The stunning actress says she is constantly being sent scripts for sexy or femme fatale roles, but she longed to play a female who required emotional range to bring to life.
She said: “I kept getting cast as either a pin-up or an alien. I felt like Pinocchio, I just wanted to be real! Oh God, please just let me be flawed and complex and human. Also, I think it’s rare to find female characters that are neither perfect nor villainous. Quite often the women are either the beautiful perfect girlfriend or the evil ex-girlfriend. It’s never the girl who’s really great in some ways but gosh, she’s flawed and frustrating.”
The ‘TRON Legacy’ actress was ecstatic to be offered the part of Kate in Joe Swanberg’s new romantic comedy ‘Drinking Buddies’ in which she plays a complicated female character who finds herself attracted to co-worker Luke (Jake Johnson).
She told Total Film magazine: “I enjoy the conversations that have sprouted from the film that surround what women are going through around 30. The idea that we feel that we’re supposed to have it all together at that age. That Kate is supposed to be feeling maternal, and organised, and clear, and she’s none of those things. It’s OK to not know who you are or what you want.”
