Celebrities including David Arquette and James Van Der Beek honoured Nigel Lythgoe in Los Angeles on Saturday (20.04.13).
The ‘American Idol’ executive producer – who co-founded the Dizzy Feet Foundation in 2009 in order to support dance education in the United States – was toasted at the LA Ballet Rubies Gala at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for his contribution to the world of dance along with Linda Duttenhaver for her philanthropy.
Other stars who attended the black tie event included Christa B. Allen, Kym Johnson, Anna Trebunskaya and Gleb Savchenko, where they were treated to an exclusive preview performance of ‘Balanchine RED’ by the LA Ballet.
It was recently revealed that Nigel – who is also a judge on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ – is planning a remake of the classic TV series ‘Fame’, which followed the students of the New York City High School of Performing Arts, but set in the present day.
The original show followed on from the 1980 film of the same name, and Nigel is partnering with MGM TV to create the project.
In a statement, he said: “In my lifetime, I’ve discovered a great many incredibly talented individuals – some have achieved stardom.
“Simultaneously, I’ve seen many dreams shattered, egos destroyed and lives changed forever. The end destination may well be fame and fortune, but the road to stardom is littered with broken hearts.
“I look forward to stripping away the glitter and glamour and revealing the true mixture of passion, humanity, exhaustion and sacrifice that these richly talented individuals endure on their road to fame.”
