Gucci documentary unveils previously unseen moments

OHMYGOSSIP — Gucci’s new documentary ‘The Director’ unveils moments which have “never before been allowed” to be captured on film, showing creative director Frida Giannini behind the scenes.

Gucci’s documentary ‘The Director’ unveils moments which have “never before been allowed” to be filmed. The fashion house’s full-length feature, which premiered at the Tibeca Film Festival on Sunday (21.04.13), follows creative director Frida Giannini behind the scenes and gives fashion fanatics the chance to find out more about the hard-working designer.

Christina Voros, who directed the documentary, told People: “The interplay of fashion and cinema has always fascinated me. I am drawn to stories of strong women. So in a lot of ways this film allowed me to explore many of the creative themes that I most enjoy.

“It’s always a little scary to be filmed, even more so when perfection is your business. [But once the trust was built] we were allowed to observe and capture moments in places where a camera had never before been allowed.”

Hollywood star James Franco, one of the famous faces of the brand, produced the documentary and Voros thinks he was the “perfect” choice for the project after having directed and produced his own films.

She said: “James is an exceptional person to collaborate with. Equal parts curiosity, generosity of spirit and an unflinching capacity to push you beyond what you might think yourself capable of, he is the perfect partner in crime.”

Now the piece has been made public, Voros wants viewers to understand how much time and effort goes into creating their products and she hopes they will discover a new-found respect for designers.

She added: “I hope the audience will emerge from the film with a greater understanding not only of a remarkable woman, but also of the infinite complexity of a process that most of us take for granted when we pick a dress up off of a rack or ogle a luxury bag in a window on 5th Avenue.

“There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into that bag sitting in that window to be ogled!”
