Thom Yorke was self-conscious about eye

OHMYGOSSIP — Thom Yorke believed his unusual right eye would spoil his chances of getting a girlfriend when he was a teenager.

Radiohead star Thom Yorke thought girls wouldn’t like him because of his unusual eye. When the musician was born his right eye was fixed shut and after corrective surgery it was still unbalanced compared to his left.

As a teenager Thom admits he was self-conscious about it but got a confidence boost when a drunken woman told him it was his “best feature”.

In a video post for American online magazine Rookie’s Ask A Grown Man feature for teenagers, he said: “When I was your age I was convinced that girls would think that was really not nice at all. I worked in this pub and this old woman – she was so funny – she used to come in all the time, and she was the first person who really said to me, ‘It’s the nicest thing about you.’ “

The 44-year-old singer – who is married to Rachel Owen – also advised his teenage fans to send a love letter to people they like if they are too shy to speak to their crush.

When asked by a 16-year-old girl how she could tell a boy she has a “crush” on him during the Q&A with bandmate Nigel Godrich, Thom advised: “If you have a crush on him then you could … if you’re really, really, really, really shy, which is what I was when I was that age, also I was at a boy’s school so it was impossible to meet girls anyway – how about just write him a note? If you can’t bear to talk to him just write him a note.”
