Scarlett Johansson to campaign for New York City mayoral candidate
Scarlett Johansson has endorsed New York City mayoral candidate Scott Stringer. The Iron Man 2 actress will host two fundraising galas for the Democratic politician’s campaign at the Plaza Hotel in October, with tickets ranging from $2,500 (£1,500) to $10,000 (£6,100).
She will also record a series of adverts for the Stringer campaign prior to the 2013 election.
Johansson has said that she decided to endorse Stringer’s campaign because he values New York City’s “cultural diversity”.
Johansson told Page Six: “When Scott is elected mayor, [we] can expect a representative who is focused on making New York a cleaner, greener city, providing affordable housing and preserving the integrity of our varied communities.”
Scarlett’s brother Hunter is also working for Stringer’s campaign.
Stringer currently serves as the 26th Borough President of Manhattan.
Alec Baldwin recently downplayed suggestions that he plans to run for mayor in New York City.
Johansson will next star with Matt Damon in We Bought a Zoo, which opens on December 23 in US and UK cinemas.
