Christina Aguilera finds success again on The Voice

After a rough 2010, which saw Christina Aguilera release a new album to lukewarm reception from fans & critics, a tour that was ultimately canceled after poor sales, a film debut (Burlesque) which drew only mediocre reviews, and a divorce from husband of five years Jordan Bratman; Christina has finally bounced back and found success once again thanks to landing the role of a music mentor on hit new music talent show The Voice.

“Last year was definitely jam-packed with great moments and highlights, and then, you know, some chaos in the mix as far as the bad press and going through the divorce,” she tells Us Weekly.

But the first half of 2011 hasn’t exactly been a cake-walk either. In February she flubbed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl and then fell onstage at the Grammys during an Aretha Franklin tribute. It all culminated with an arrest for public intoxication along with new boyfriend Matthew Rutler; but after that, things turned around and Christina now finds herself on top again and on a hit TV show as a music mentor, helping contestants follow their dreams of a singing career.

“I live the concept of The Voice,” she says. “We’re all real vocalists with TV performances, touring experience and Grammys under our belts.”

Christina was cast on the show, along side Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, country singer Blake Shelton and funk/rap/hip-hop aficionado Cee Lo Green, as a vocal coach to fine tune her own team of contestants in hopes of turning one into a music superstar. She only took the gig because the other music shows were too tough on contestants for her liking.

“I had never actually seen a full episode of any of the music shows on TV because the clips I watched were so harsh on the competitors. It seemed mean-spirited,” she says; adding, “That’s not the way I operate.”

Taking on The Voice may have ended up turning things around for her.

“I wouldn’t trade any of the mishaps for anything because they all shaped the strong individual that I am today,” she says.
