Billy Crystal returned to the Oscars Sunday night. The beloved host — who hasn’t been on stage since 2004 — made a special appearance mid-way through the 83rd annual Academy Awards to pay tribute to Bob Hope.
“Wow,” he told the audience as they applauded thunderously. “So, where was I?
“Some things never change: The producers asked me to say we’re running a little long… so here are the nominees for best picture…”
Crystal was actually there to introduce a segment looking back at the first Oscars and the days when Bob Hope was host.
Hope — who began hosting in the 1940s and hosted the show a total of 18 times — was projected hologram-like at the podium.
Crystal said Hope did a better job than him when it came to hosting the big show.
