BBC’s BAFTA coverage dazzles 5.3m
Live coverage of the British Academy Film Awards was watched by more than 5m viewers on Sunday evening, but Dancing On Ice continued to own primetime, the latest audience data has revealed.
The BAFTAs averaged 5.3m (22.3%) for BBC One between 9pm and 11pm, as The King’s Speech took home seven awards, including ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Actor’ for Colin Firth.
Primetime was again dominated by Dancing On Ice, with the main programme pulling in 8.73m (32.1%) on ITV1 from 6.15pm and 192k (0.7%) on the ITV1+1 channel.
Dancing On Ice: The Skate-Off, featuring the elimination of ‘Comedy’ Dave Vitty, entertained 7.31m (27.4%) from 9.30pm and 151k (0.8%) on timeshift.
Also on ITV1, Wild At Heart mustered 7.19m (25.5%) from 8.30pm and 157k (0.6%) on +1. Later, That Sunday Night Show had 2.98m (13.7%) from 10pm and 64k (0.6%) an hour later.
Earlier on BBC One, Antiques Roadshow brought in 6.08m (25.2%) in the 6pm hour, before Countryfile managed 6.31m (23.6%). Lark Rise to Candleford had 6.27m (21.2%) from 8pm.
Over at BBC Two, new Top Gear entertained 5.67m (19.1%) in the 8pm hour and 690k (2.3%) on BBC HD. Toughest Place To Be a Paramedic mustered 2.1m (7.8%) from 9pm, before Match Of The Day 2 grabbed 1.91m (9%) from 10pm.
Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me entertained 1.4m (5.2%) in the 8pm hour and 282k (1%) on +1. New series The People’s Supermarket had 890k (3%) from 9pm and 130k (0.5%) on timeshift. The Promise – Peter Kosminsky’s ambitious four-part drama serial – slumped to 1.17m (4.7%) from 9pm, down 570k week-on-week. A further 70k (0.4%) watched the programme on +1.
On Channel 5, screenings of North Sea Hijack and Revolver roused 693k (2.5%) and 1.36m (5.9%) respectively from 7pm.
Overall, ITV1 won primetime with 26.1% against BBC One’s 22.3%. BBC Two came in third with 11.2%, followed by Channel 4 with 4.3% (+1: 0.6%) and Channel 5 with 4%.
Elsewhere, Being Human continued on BBC Three with 1.05m (3.9%) from 10pm, while a further 207k (0.8%) watched the show on the BBC HD channel.
Sky1’s talent programme Got To Dance attracted 825k (3.3%) between 6pm and 7.30pm.
