Penelope Cruz doing great after welcoming first child with husband Javier Bardem
Penelope Cruz is “doing great” after giving birth to her firt child. The Spanish actress and her husband, actor Javier Bardem, welcomed the tot last week. Cruz gave birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“Penélope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week,” reps for the couple said Wednesday. “Both parents and baby are doing great.”
Previous reports have claimed the baby is a boy.
According to Spain’s HOLA! magazine Penelope’s mother Encarna, her younger brother Eduardo and her sister Monica and her actor boyfriend Alex Gonzalez were present at the birth.
Javier’s mother Pilar Bardem flew out of Madrid’s Barajas airport to the US on Monday (24.01.11) to meet her grandson for the first time.
The 36-year-old actress had been planning to have her baby in Madrid — where she and her husband live — but changed her mind after spending Christmas in Los Angeles and decided to have her delivery in Los Angeles so her child would have dual nationality.
It has been a great few days for 41-year-old Javier — who was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, Spain — after he learned on Tuesday he had been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Biutiful.
The couple started dating after working together on Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2007, and the pair — who had been friends for over 12 years before they embarked on a relationship— married in a low-key ceremony in the Bahamas in July 2010.
