James McAvoy: X-Men made me want to act
James McAvoy says his career has come full circle with his role in X-Men: First Class. The Scottish movie hunk, 31, has revealed he set out to be an actor after watching X-Men cartoons as a kid.
“Watching the cartoons when I was a kid was really a big part of why I watched movies and why I took up acting, so it’s great to be involved with one,” says James. “When you can see kids smiling, that’s one of the best things.”
James recently insisted he’ll always be an actor, even it’s not in movies.
“I might not be in movies in 10 years’ time and I might not be playing nice, big lead roles,” he said.
“But I’ve still got to be an actor, I’ve still got to have a career and I’ve still got to be allowed to work.
“If you go down that blockbuster, starry route too much, there’s no way back to being a normal actor.
“Not that I’m not a ‘normal’ actor now, but it’s like some people can’t actually make the step back to character parts.”
