Paramount has snapped up Sacha Baron Cohen and director Larry Charles’s next collaboration The Dictator.
The movie has been scheduled for worldwide release on May 11, 2012 and will be produced by Oscar winner Scott Rudin (The Social Network) alongside Cohen and Seinfeld trio Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Larry Charles previously worked together on the box office hits Borat and Brüno.
The Dictator will see the British star portray a ruler who risks his life to stop democracy from coming to the country he is striving to oppress.
The comedy will be inspired by the romance novel Zabibah And The King, which was published anonymously in Iraq in 2000 and allegedly penned by Saddam Hussein. The CIA believes that Hussein used a team of ghostwriters to write the book.
