Rachel McAdams used to skip school

Rachel McAdams used to skip school to watch daytime TV. The Morning Glory actress insists she never tried “normal” teenage pursuits such as experimenting with drugs when she was a teenager because she was so obsessed with her favorite shows.

“I watched a lot of morning television growing up as a kid because I skipped school the whole time and I didn’t go out or, like, smoke pot and do normal things — I, like, wanted to watch daytime television,” she said.

“When I was younger I think I ODed on it.”

Rachel, 32, claimed watching TV in her youth gave her some of the experience she needed when she was filming her role as TV producer Becky Fuller in Morning Glory -– but she gained even more respect for those who work behind the scenes when she visited the set of some real-life morning shows.

“It’s very interesting to be on the other side of the fence,” she said. “It was really fun to go on these shows and see the anchors with their fluffy slippers on underneath the chair … and then from the point of the view of the control room.

“I mean it’s completely crazy, very dramatic, fast-paced, yelling – I had a hard time following it at first when we got there, you know, it’s so fast and the stories were over before you’d even acknowledged it.

“I have a lot of respect for what happens back there and how much energy and vitality you have to make it through this 3 am to 10 am shift and then do it all over again the next day.”

However, nowadays the Mean Girls star prefers listening to the radio to watching TV in the mornings.

“I really like to listen to the radio. I find it really a nice fix for the morning,” she said.
