Portia de Rossi has officially become Mrs. DeGeneres
The former Ally McBeal and Arrested Development star — who was born Amanda Lee Rogers and adopted the name Portia de Rossi when she first became a model — was granted permission to change her name in court on Thursday.
Portia will now be known as Portia Lee James DeGeneres.
The actress met TV star Ellen DeGeneres in 2004 and wed in 2008 during the time it was still legal to do so in California.
“Marriage is a different way of being together,” Portia told People magazine five months after the wedding. “It’s legal, and it’s real, so there’s that kind of formality to it that makes it very valid.”
Ellen addressed Portia’s name change on Twitter Thursday.
“I just got some amazing news,” she wrote. “The court has granted Portia’s name change. She’s now officially Portia Winfrey.”
Ellen and Portia were recently named the most popular celebrity couple.
