Tom Cruise – stunt coordinator
Tom Cruise devised one of the big action stunts on his new film ‘Knight and Day’.
The actor – who portrays one half of a fugitive couple with Cameron Diaz in the action comedy – confesses it was him who came up with the stunt seen in the trailer where Cameron’s character June spins around him on a bike to shoot people behind them while they are moving at high speed.
He said: “I called the director James Mangold and I said, ‘Look, I’ve got this stunt. It’s this motorcycle stunt. We’ve gotta put a motorcycle in this scene and I’ve gotta flip her around this thing.
“I called Cameron and said, ‘Are you up for it?’ She came out. We practiced it and stuff and Jim shot it. I couldn’t wait to do that!”
The 47-year-old star admits he had little doubt his leading lady would be good fit enough to take on the difficult stunt.
He told Access Hollywood: “She’s strong enough. The great thing about Cameron is she’s enormously talented, funny and athletic.
“There’s a lot of trust because she had full blanks in the gun as she’s going around me. They’re coming past me head and she was always – you have to be there with someone and really know that they’re gonna be there.”
‘Knight and Day’ is set for release in the US on June 23 and the UK on July 2.
