Tom Cruise to star in Mission: Impossible 6 with Frederick Schmidt
OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise is to star in ‘Mission: Impossible – 6’ with ‘Supergirl’ star Frederick Schmidt.
The actor has been announced as the latest cast member of the action franchise with director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the film as well.
McQuarrie is producing alongside Tom, Frederick, Don Granger, J.J. Abrams and David Ellison and Dana Goldberg from Skydance Productions.
Speaking about the project, Ellison said: “What Tom is doing in this movie I believe will top anything that’s come before. It is absolutely unbelievable – he’s been training for a year. It is going to be, I believe, the most impressive and unbelievable thing that Tom has done in a movie and he has been working on it since right after ‘Rogue Nation’ came out. It’s gonna be mind-blowing.”
However, Jeremy Renner will not be reprising his role as IMF Field Operations Director William Brandt due to a scheduling clash with ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, in which he will be playing Hawkeye again.
The 46-year-old actor – who was in 2015’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’, the fifth in the franchise – had been in talks about a return, but a scheduling conflict with the Marvel Cinematic Universe film means he cannot return to the role of William Brandt.
Big screen Superman Henry Cavill has also been added to the star-studded cast for ‘Mission: Impossible – 6’.
Cavill’s appearance in the movie was revealed during an Instagram exchange shared by director McQuarrie.
The 48-year-old filmmaker posted a photo of himself standing on some rocks with the caption: “Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you’re interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure. (sic)”
Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris are all returning for the next instalment of the franchise.
The film is scheduled for release in July 2018.
