Joss Whedon in talks to bring Batgirl to the big screen

OHMYGOSSIP — Joss Whedon is expected to sign a deal to write, direct and produce a Batgirl film.
The ‘Avengers’ director is set to switch from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and join the DC Extended Universe as he is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring the superhero to life on the big screen with other characters who inhabit Gotham City.
According to Variety, the Batgirl project only came to fruition last month follow a meeting between Whedon and those overseeing the standalone picture; Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
Batgirl has been the alter ego of several different characters in the DC Comics but the definitive version is Barbara Gordon who first appeared in comic book pages back in 1967. She is the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon and ally of Batman.
As well as writing and directing ‘The Avengers’ and the sequel ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ for Marvel Studios, Whedon’s list of successes is long and includes creating the hit TV shows ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Angel’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ and working as a writer on movies such as ‘Toy Story’, ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ and ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.
DC Films have already got their first female led film ‘Wonder Woman’ on the verge of release with Gal Gadot playing the Amazonian Princess and the as-yet untitled Batgirl movie would be the studio’s second project focused on a woman.
DC Extended Universe fans have ‘Justice League’ to look forward to in November with ‘Aquaman’, a ‘Suicide Squad’ sequel, ‘The Batman’ – starring Ben Affleck as The Caped Crusader again and with Matt Reeves directing – ‘The Flash’, ‘Gotham City Sirens’, a ‘Suicide Squad spin-off led by Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and ‘Shazam’ all coming to the big screen.
