OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Elliott is to appear in ‘A Star Is Born’ alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
The 72-year-old actor – who can currently be seen in Netflix series ‘The Ranch’ – has joined the cast for the latest remake of the story being brought to the big screen by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Shooting is due to start on the project in April and it marks Gaga’s first major feature role and is Cooper’s directorial debut.
The new movie is the fourth production of ‘A Star is Born’, which saw Janet Gaynor and Fredric March star in the 1937 original.
Judy Garland and James Mason appeared in another version in 1954, while the most recent movie, in 1976, saw Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in the lead roles.
Cooper’s interpretation – based on a script by ‘Forrest Gump’ writer Eric Roth – is set to give a new look at the story of a singer who sees her fame rise as quickly as her troubled lover-and-mentor’s star falls.
Elliott is to play the character Bobby, who is the kind manager to Cooper’s alcoholic movie star who encourages Gaga’s alter ego to achieve her dream of stardom, but fails to succeed himself.
Elliott can next be seen in independent movie ‘The Hero’, which sees him reunite with his ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams’ director Brett Haley.
Clint Eastwood was responsible for reviving the story and always wanted Cooper in the main role and as the director after working with him on ‘American Sniper’. The 86-year-old Hollywood legend has now stepped away from his proposed role as a producer.
For Gaga, the role comes off the back of her huge success in TV thriller ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’, for which she picked up a Golden Globe for best actress in a mini-series.
‘A Star Is Born’ has a planned September 2018 release date.
