Culture Club announce London show
OHMYGOSSIP — Culture Club have announced a show in London.
The iconic 80s pop group – fronted by Boy George – will bring their biggest hits to The SSE Wembley Arena on December 14, where they will perform songs from their back catalogue including ‘Karma Chameleon’ and ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me’.
The show will see original band members, Mike Craig, Roy Hay and Jon Moss, perform together in the UK for the first time since 2002 when they did a 20th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2006, the band attempted to get back together but without lead singer Boy George, who was to be replaced, but the idea folded.
Five years later in 2011, the band reformed without Jon and in 2014 they performed on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with Boy George.
The show announcement comes ahead of the release of their new album, ‘Tribes’, which is expected to be released later this year.
Boy George – who announced he will not be returning as a judge on ‘The Voice UK’ next year – previously said that he wanted to bring their sixth studio album out when they have the “best social presence”.
He said: “I want it to come out when we have our best social presence.”
Culture Club were due to release ‘Tribes’ in 2014, but the singer had complications with his vocal chords and so they had to postpone it.
Talking about how fit he is for touring, George recently revealed how he has to have silent days as a part of his throat therapy and joked how it is “very difficult when ordering lunch”.
He previously said: “That means you don’t speak at all, yeah … As you get older, you do need to do different things in order to get through tours and performances. I’ve been working with an incredible vocal coach in the U.K.
“The silence thing is a really good thing to do after a show. You kind of just don’t talk. It makes it very difficult when you’re ordering lunch.”
Tickets for Culture Club’s The SSE Wembley Arena show go on sale on September 23 from www.culture-club.co.uk
