Hear Lost Temple of the Dog Song ‘Angel of Fire’

OHMYGOSSIP — Temple of the Dog, the early Nineties one-off led by Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell and future members of Pearl Jam, is getting a deluxe reissue of its sole, self-titled album originally released in 1991. The reissue will feature demos of two songs that didn’t make the cut. One of them, the brittle, ballad-y “Angel of Fire,” has just made its way online.

The reissue will come out in a variety of formats. The most extravagant edition will contain four discs. The first disc contains a remastered version of the original album along with alternate mixes of some of the songs. The second features five demos including “Angel of Fire” and the never-before-released “Black Cat.” The third is a DVD containing promo videos and live performances. And the final disc is a Blu-ray Audio disc of the LP with music videos. Rolling Stone’s David Fricke wrote liner notes for the release.

The other configurations include a double-LP release, a two-CD deluxe edition (featuring the first two discs of the box set) and a single CD version. All will be available on September 30th.

The group has also planned a number of live dates around the United States in November. They are donating $1.50 from each ticket to the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, a philanthropic organization whose aim is to protect vulnerable children. Another $1.50 will go to Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation, which provides support for community health, the environment, arts and education and social change.

“We wanted to do the one thing we never got to do … play shows and see what it feels like to be the band that we walked away from 25 years ago,” Cornell said in a statement. “This is something no one has ever seen. We wanted to stop and recognize that we did this and pay homage.”
