Actress Jada Pinkett Smith was presenting Latifah with the “Power Award” at the third annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon when she began to cry while talking about the recent passing of her father, reports People.
“My father died last week,” Pinkett said. “But I wanted to come because when those types of losses happen a lot of things get illuminated and your priorities fall in line. When I think about Latifah I think about a woman who makes me feel loved. She can sit in the throne of my soul and just be there with me. She makes me laugh,” Pinkett added that Latifah had always been a good friend to her.
Jada was then unable to finish her speech, as she began crying, and found herself alone on stage. Latifah rose from her seat and stood beside her. “This is what I am talking about,” Pinkett Smith continued. “I don’t see her a lot, but she is my girl.”
