Charli XCX inspired by fashion faux-pars
OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX has revealed she gets her fashion inspiration from ‘worst dressed’ pages and “extreme rock ‘n’ roll make-up”.
The ‘Boom Clap’ hitmaker has cultivated an eclectic and unique style – inspired by 90s fashion – and she insists she just “does what she feels” when it comes to her personal style and she gets a lot of ideas from alleged fashion faux pars.
The 22-year-old singer said: “I was always more interested in the ‘worst dressed’ pages and extreme rock ‘n’ roll makeup rather than what was ‘good’ technically.
“I do what I feel. It’s nice to have one look that you love and is classic and simple, but also to experiment sometimes and go wild.”
Charli – who has collaborated with fellow pop fashionistas Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea – will never forget the first ever bold fashion statement she made while she was still at school.
She told Stella magazine: “I remember going to a school disco dressed all in purple – purple flares, purple halter-neck top, purple sandals – and then covering my eyes in purple eye-shadow and purple glitter, so I was all matchy-match. It was great.”
What Charli loves most about fashion and cosmetics is their power to alter her mood and increase her confidence.
She said: “Makeup definitely has the ability to transform. And fragrance, too. When I put perfume on I immediately feel 10 times more sassy.
“As for beauty icons, Britney (Spears) in the 1990s was great, so fresh faced. Also Angelina Jolie at that time had incredible make-up. For stage looks I go to Siouxsie Sioux – her eye-make-up is wild.”
