Pharrell Williams wins CFDA Fashion Icon Award
OHMYGOSSIP — Pharrell Williams has been named the recipient of this year’s CFDA Fashion Icon Award and will be honoured with the accolade when the ceremony takes play in June.
The ‘Happy’ hitmaker has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious accolade and will be honoured with the award when the ceremony takes place on June 1 at Alice Tully Hall in New York.
The 41-year-old singer joins last year’s winner Rihanna and past honourees Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman in receiving the award which is “given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage”.
Fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg, who is president of the CFDA, said of their decision: “If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him.”
Also in with a chance of being honoured at the event is fashion design duo Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen whose collection The Row has earnt them nods in the Womenswear Designer of the Year and Accessories Designer of the Year categories.
The 28-year-old twins are joined in both categories by Proenza Schouler designers, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who have also been shortlisted for the accolades.
Meanwhile, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne’s collection for Public School has received two nominations too, appearing in the shortlist for Menswear Designer of the Year and Swarovski Award for Womenswear.
Betsey Johnson has also been announced as the recipient of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
