Courtney Love joins D and G boycott
OHMYGOSSIP — Courtney Love wants to “burn” her Dolce and Gabbana clothing, while Martina Navratilova has thrown hers in the bin following the design duo’s controversial comments about gay adoption and IVF.
Courtney Love wants to “burn” her Dolce and Gabbana clothing.
The Hole rocker has backed Sir Elton John after he called for a boycott of the designers’ clothing label after they said they were against gay adoption and branded children conceived through fertility treatment “synthetic”.
She tweeted: “Just round up all my Dolce & Gabbana pieces. I want to burn them. I’m just beyond words and emotions. Boycott senseless bigotry! #boycottD&G (sic)”
And lesbian tennis legend Martina Navratilova has thrown her D&G garments “in the bin”.
She tweeted: “My D&G shirts are going in the bin – don’t want ANYONE to wear them (sic)”
While she didn’t condemn the designers, Victoria Beckham – who has sons Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10, and Harper, three, with husband David Beckham – has also sent her support to Elton, his husband David Furnish and their sons Zachary, five, and Elijah, two.
She tweeted: “Sending love to Elton David Zachary Elijah & all the beautiful IVF babies x vb.”
Following Elton’s call to boycott the firm, the design duo have spoken out to insist they didn’t intend to “judge other people’s choices” .
Stefano Gabbana has now said: “We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”
And his design partner, Domenico Dolce, said while his own family was “traditional”, that did not “imply that I don’t understand different ones”.
He added: “I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people’s choices and decisions.”
Following their original remarks, in which they said they “oppose gay adoptions because “the only family is the traditional one” and that “life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed,” Elton took to Instagram to slam the pair.
He wrote: “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as “synthetic”. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.
“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana (sic).”
A host of other stars have backed Elton, including Sharon Stone, Ricky Martin, Ryan Murphy and John Barrowman
