Azealia Banks was a nerdy kid

OHMYGOSSIP — Azealia Banks has confessed she didn’t know who Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander Wang were when she first met them as she was a “nerdy kid”.

The 23-year-old star claims she didn’t understand the excitement of being praised by designers Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander Wang when she rose to fame with hit single ‘212’ because she didn’t know who they were.

She said: “I had no idea who Karl Lagerfeld was, so I didn’t know what a big deal it was. I didn’t know who Alexander Wang was before he gave me free clothes. I was a real nerdy kid.”

The ‘Liquorice’ rapper also claims that while she may have been invited to perform at Chanel’s creative director Lagerfeld’s birthday party in 2012, she never got to know him on a personal level.

She continued: “They’d be like, ‘How amazing was it hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld?’ And I was like, ‘You mean the time I got paid to sing my song and go home?’ I’ve never hung out with him?”

And although she recently purchased a Chanel outfit to wear to an awards ceremony, she admits she isn’t keen to become a part of the fashion pack.

She added to the Sunday Telegraph newspaper: “I absolutely love clothes, but the fashion industry is such a big machine and so influential. I don’t understand how people can worship it.”
