Laura Carmichael hates ‘fiddly’ Downton Abbey costumes
OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Carmichael has revealed she isn’t fond of the period costumes in the hit ITV drama Downton Abbey as they are difficult to get on and off.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays Lady Edith in the ITV period drama, has admitted that she can’t stand the intricate costumes that her character has to wear.
When asked if she hates the wardrobe for Lady Edith, she replied: “Yeah, yeah, a lot. Maybe because you keep having to be fiddled with and sewn in. They move your necklace and sew it into the neckline or the hem while you’re carrying on a conversation.”
Laura also confessed that at one point, the costumes actually prohibited her from going to the toilet.
She joked: “We tend to be OK now. But there was this annoying moment in the second series where are corsets were attached to our stockings, which was a nightmare.
“The undergarments are a lot better for us now.”
The ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ star also recently revealed that the outfits planned for her character during the latest series of the show are much more risqué.
Quizzed on what the best thing about playing her character is, she said: “She has amazing storylines, like the adoption one that continues this series. Her outfits are more glamorous and risqué now. You can see calf!”
