Britain’s Duchess Camilla meets with Angelina Jolie
OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Duchess Camilla met with Angelina Jolie and William Hague to discuss how to help victims of sexual abuse yesterday (12.06.14). The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the ‘Maleficent’ actress and Foreign Secretary William Hague at Clarence House to discuss how to help victims of sexual abuse.
The two women have worked together in recent years to highlight the issue of sexual violence, and along with the politician they covered common ground between their campaigns and shared ideas of what can be done next.
Camilla – who is married to Prince Charles – spearheaded a scheme to provide rape victims with toiletries after they undergo forensic examinations and has been seen visiting rape crisis centres across the UK, while Angelina’s campaigning has been to highlight awareness of the use of rape as a weapon in war-torn areas.
Angelina – who is special envoy for the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees – has been in London to co-chair the global summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict with Mr Hague and called for a halt to “injustice” for the “forgotten survivors”.
She said in a speech: “We are here for the nine-year-old girl in Uganda, kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery.
“We are here for the man in Bosnia, years after rape, still stigmatised, unable to earn enough money to buy bread for his family. We are here for all the forgotten, hidden survivors who have been made to feel ashamed or have been abandoned.
“And for the children of rape – we want the whole world to hear their stories and understand that this injustice cannot be tolerated, and that sorrow and compassion are not enough.”
