Natalie Portman on feminism

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman believes “feminism is misinterpreted” in Hollywood — women’s roles are often “just a fantasy of a male writer”. The Oscar-winning actress was speaking at the world premiere of Thor: The Dark World in London’s Leicester Square when she said that her character is feisty, but female action heroes should not have to “kick butt”.

“I don’t think that’s necessarily feminist to see women like we see men in movies,” she said.

“Just having a range of different ways women can be … weak and strong … just being real is more feminist than ‘she knows how to do kung fu’.”

Portman recently revealed she loves living in Los Angeles!

The actress relocated from New York to Hollywood.

“I just really really love it here. It’s one of the most exciting places to be in the world right now. It’s really central in terms of the arts,” she said in an interview with Marie Claire magazine.

“It feels like things are happening in L.A., you know? New York is more where art is bought than where art is made… I’m really lucky. When Ben [husband Ben Millipied] asked me if I wanted to go to Paris, I freaked. Everyone dreams of living in Paris,” she says.

“I don’t like confrontation, but I’m probably less afraid of it now. I wouldn’t say I’m confrontational. But I say my opinion. I realize how much nonconfrontation was about trying to have everyone like me.”
