Britney Spears’ new album was ‘therapy’ for split

OHMYGOSSIP — Britney Spears says penning her eighth studio album was “therapy” after splitting from her fiancé Jason Trawick in January. The ‘Work Bitch’ singer admits her separation from fiancé Jason Trawick weighed heavily on her mind while she was writing songs for her eighth studio LP, ‘Britney Jean’, and the songs turned out more emotional than she had planned.

During her appearance on Alan Carr’s ‘Chatty Man’ talk show, Britney said: “Yes definitely, [writing for the album] was like therapy. Most of the songs are about celebrating having a good time. But I went through a break-up with this record so some of the stuff that I went through is on the record.”

The 31-year-old singer – whose two-year concert residency in Las Vegas kicks off in December – is particularly proud of one heartfelt ballad titled ‘Perfume’.

She explained: “There’s a beautiful ballad called ‘Perfume’ and it’s about a girl that knows her boyfriend is cheating on her. She just wants him to smell her perfume so she can mark her territory on him; it’s a really beautiful song.”

Britney also made the surprising revelation that she would prefer not to perform her old pop hits like ‘Baby… One More Time’ and only continues to do so to please her fans.

She quipped: “I don’t like performing my old stuff. I like performing my new stuff. I do it for the fans because they like the old hits, but I prefer the new stuff.”

The mother-of-two – who first conquered the charts in 1999 – never expected to have such longevity in the music industry and plans on taking a well-deserved rest after this LP comes out.

Asked whether she ever thought she’d be working on her eighth album, Britney said: “Never in my wildest dreams! I’ll take a break after this one for a while.”
