Queen Elizabeth laments the rise of the e-book

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Queen Elizabeth told author Joanne Harris she fears children are shunning real books in favour of electronic devices.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth isn’t a fan of e-books. The 87-year-old monarch has expressed her regret that the younger generation appear to prefer e-reader devices and computer games to a good old-fashioned paperback.

The queen presented author Joanne Harris with an MBE for her services to literature during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday (10.10.13) and shared her fears with the ‘Chocolat’ novelist.

Joanne told Scottish newspaper The Herald: “She asked me what I thought about e-books and computer games and said she feared that children were playing with those more than they were reading books. I told her that we start them on e-books and computer games, then try to get them on to books later.”

The Queen led the knighting at the first investiture ceremony since leaving her summertime residence at Balmoral this September.

Later in the day, the techno-phobic royal was joined for an audience by the King of Tonga and his wife Queen Nanasipau’u at the Palace.

He has ruled the South Pacific islands since 2012 after succeeding his brother, King George Tupou, who was a guest at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011.
