Josie Gibson says Jade Goody opera idea is disgusting
OHMYGOSSIP — Big Brother 2010 winner Josie Gibson has said the decision to turn Jade Goody’s life into an opera is “disgusting” and “upsetting”. She accused its makers of “cashing in on her death”, after Goody who took part in Big Brother in 2002 died of cervical cancer.
It was announced last week that a production called and the Crowd (wept) which covers Jade’s life from her time in BB until her death in 2009, would be staged in London in August.
Writing in her New! column, Gibson suggested it was insensitive to describe Goody’s life as a ‘fairytale’ given its tragic ending.
She added that she hoped Jade’s ex, Jeff Brazier, and their sons Bobby and Freddie would receive a cut of the profits.
Josie wrote: “I probably won’t go to see it because I know what the ending is and I don’t like it. The playwright likened Jade’s life to a fairytale, but I don’t agree with that. Yes, she had a rough upbringing and then found fame, but then she died of cancer – I wouldn’t call that a fairytale.”
She continued: “I also think the opera might be upsetting for Jade’s sons and I hope the producers have checked with their dad Jeff Brazier that the boys are okay about it.
“In my opinion, Bobby and Freddie should get the money made from the production, because I think it would be disgusting if other people were cashing in on Jade’s death”.
