“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy considered ending show after Cory Monteith death

OHMYGOSSIP — Glee creator Ryan Murphy has admitted that he was prepared to end the show following the death of Cory Monteith ten days ago. Murphy revealed that if Monteith’s co-star and girlfriend Lea Michele felt she could not continue, he would have considered finishing the musical comedy-drama.

Asked by E! Online if he thought about ending Glee following Monteith’s death, Murphy replied: “Yes. If Lea had said to me, ‘I could never do this again and I don’t want to do this again’, you know, she is sort of the show, so what do you do?

“And I would’ve, out of respect to her as a person, said ‘OK’, but that’s not how Lea operates; that’s not how she feels. She’s handled this with so much humanity and grace and she’s also handled this in a way where she’s trying to look out for 500 other people affected by him and who have mortgages to pay and families to feed.

“That was never on the table for her and I said, ‘OK’. Nothing has been done and will be done in terms of any of the material without Lea blessing it and making sure it’s OK with her – and she has been.”

Monteith was found dead at the age of 31 in Vancouver from a mixed drug toxicity, mere months after being treated for addiction in rehab.

Glee creator Murphy revealed at Comic-Con over the weekend that the series will return with a two-part Beatles tribute, followed by a tribute to Monteith this autumn.

Murphy also confirmed that the show will then take a “long hiatus”.
