Prince Philip sees in St. George’s Day with town visit

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Prince Philip saw in Saint George’s Day today (23.04.13) by meeting local residents of Sandhurst, a small town in Berkshire, South East England.

Britain’s Prince Philip celebrated Saint George’s Day by visiting a small English town today (23.04.13). The Duke of Edinburgh saw in the iconic day in Sandhurst, Berkshire, South East England – near the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst – where he was welcomed by a musical performance by school children and met council officials and community volunteers.

The 91-year-old royal was treated to a traditional dance by Gurkhas and chatted to local residents, who lined the streets with patriotic flags to welcome the prince.

Philip’s whistle-stop tour of the small town comes after Councillor Dale Birch, Sandhurst Town Mayor, asked him to pay the area a visit after meeting him at Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee garden party in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, South East England, last year.

Birch told the Bracknell News: “One of the reasons why I invited the duke to come here was to see what a great town Sandhurst is.

“We’ve got a fantastic community and I’ve spent the past two years as Mayor promoting that. We work closely with the RMA [Royal Military Academy] and the Gurkhas but I want to get the town recognised for more than that – it’s a great place to live.”
