Labrinth to receive Innovation Award at Silver Clefs

OHMYGOSSIP — Labrinth has been announced as the recipient of the Innovation Award at the upcoming Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef Awards.

Labrinth is to be presented with the Innovation Award at the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef Awards. The ‘Beneath You Beautiful’ hitmaker is to be recognised for his talents as a producer, rapper and singer at the annual event and he is delighted that his music has earned him the accolade.

Labrinth said: “It’s amazing to be awarded the American Express Innovation Award. Especially when my pal Emeli Sande won it the year before. I’m always looking for new ideas and inspiration for my music and it’s great to be recognised by Nordoff Robbins. Music is my life, so to see how it can help so many people through music therapy is really cool.”

Labrinth was signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label in 2010, becoming the first act attached the label who hadn’t come from one of Simon’s TV shows for six years.

He released his debut album ‘Electronic Earth’ last year and his collaborations with Tinie Tempah, ‘Pass Out’, and Emeli Sande ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ – two previous winners of the Innovation Award – have earned him two number one singles.

Labrinth – real name Timothy McKenzie – recently worked with Plan B on ‘Ill Manors’, the soundtrack album to his film of the same name, and has written tracks for Professor Green.

David Munns, Nordoff Robbins Chairman, insists he can think of no one more worthy of the prize than Labrinth – the first of this year’s winners’ to be announced.

Munns said: It’s like this Innovation Award category was created for Labrinth. Simon Cowell saw his potential early on and signed him to Syco … It’s amazing when you consider what he has achieved at just 24 years old – the future can only hold more success for him.”

Music charity Nordoff Robbins raises money to provide music therapy across the UK, including schools, day centres and hospitals, to help children and adults with a variety of difficulties.

The 38th Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards and Lunch takes place on June 28 June at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
