Prince Harry expected to join South Pole trek

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Prince Harry is expected to join a group of injured soldiers in their Walking With The Wounded trek to the South Pole.

Britain’s Prince Harry is expected to join a group of injured soldiers in a trek to the South Pole. The handsome royal is thought to announce his involvement in the expedition – organised by Walking With The Wounded – on Friday (19.04.13), in which he will join his comrade from Afghanistan, Captain Guy Disney.

The soldier would be thrilled if his royal friend – who finished his second tour of duty in the war-stricken country in January – joined him in the journey.

Speaking of Harry, who is patron of the trek, he said: “We’d be absolutely delighted if he came along. He’s one of us.

“I know he’d want to be involved. He’s a soldier – of course he’d love to do this. But first and foremost I’d like him to be there because he’s a really good bloke.”

Capt Disney lost his right leg after his armoured vehicle was caught by a Taliban’s grenade – killing the man next to him – less than 18 months ago and he became part of the first amputee team to trek to the North Pole in 2011, joined by the prince during the first three days.

Harry, known as Captain Wales in the military, has supported Walking With The Wounded since his first trek was planned in 2010 and the organisation’s co-founder Ed Parker believes he is more motivated after spending time with the wounded.

He said: “When Harry flew back from Afghanistan he was on an aircraft with several wounded soldiers.

“That had a real, lasting impact on him. He spent 12 hours with these men on the plane and realised how much their lives have changed, and I think that’s part of his motivation in supporting the charity’s work.”
