Pippa Middleton explains sushi making
OHMYGOSSIP — Pippa Middleton taught her student flatmates to make sushi and found it easy, though admits it required “patience”.
The 29-year-old party planner – who is the sister of Britain’s Duchess Catherine – thinks Fridays are made for a relaxed, Asian-themed night in with friends” and she found, so long as people are patient, the Japanese foodstuff was surprisingly easy to make.
She wrote in her new column, Pippa’s Friday Night Feasts, for Waitrose magazine: “The first time I made sushi was at Edinburgh University.
“I convinced my flatmates to help, promising we’d prepare it in front of the rugby on TV that afternoon. The trickiest part was cooking the rice but even that, once we got a feel for the right stickiness, was easy, while the rolling just required patience.
“Keep the layer of rice fairly thin and be generous with the filling. If you don’t have a bamboo rolling mat, just use cling film.”
Despite admitting she feels “exhausted” by Friday nights, she still thinks it is the perfect time to cook for friends.
She explained: “Friday night is the perfect time to cook.
“Regardless of how tired I might be, the moment Friday lunchtime arrives I get that contagious pre-weekend excitement. Even if I’m feeling exhausted and don’t feel like doing anything but watching telly, I can put off being tired till Saturday.
“Fridays, of course, hold the promise of the weekend but also, being far enough away from pre-Monday melancholy, feel freer.”
In Pippa’s first magazine, she also advises readers on how to set the mood for their evening, suggesting the use of “bright flowers” to “soften angular Asian-style tableware” and gives recipes for hoisin duck rolls, sushi rolls and ginger mojitos.
