Lady GaGa has thanked Whitney Houston for inspiring her new single “Born This Way”. The singer, who gave her first live performance of the track at last night’s Grammy Awards, thanked the ‘Million Dollar Bill’ star as she picked up the prize for Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster.
“I need to say thank you tonight to Whitney Houston,” she told the audience at LA’s Staples Centre.
“I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote ‘Born This Way’, I imagined she was singing it because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar.
“So Whitney, I imagined you were singing ‘Born This Way’ when I wrote it. Thank you.”
Since its global release last Friday, ‘Born This Way’ has topped the US iTunes chart and entered the UK singles chart at number three, where it notched up sales of 60,000 in 34 hours.
