Facebook admits Kate Middleton error
Facebook has blocked an account belonging to a woman called Kate Middleton, believing that she was an imposter.
The 29-year-old, who shares the same name as Prince Williams‘ fiancee, revealed that her account was suspended on the social-networking website last Thursday. Kate Middleton, who lives at an address in Kingsway in Northants, also works as an assistant at St Andrews Healthcare.
According to The Mirror, Facebook is determined to remove users who set up accounts to impersonate well-known personalities.
“I still can’t get on,” she told the paper. “On Thursday I was logged in all day as usual. Then I went out with friends and got a call from my partner saying he couldn’t see me on there any more. Later when I tried to log in again I got an error message that said it had been disabled.”
She continued: “I have pictures of my nephew on there and all my contacts. I don’t know if they ever do let me back in whether that will be saved. Facebook should have got in touch with me first and asked me to prove who I was.”
Facebook, who have acknowledged the error and vowed to reactivate the account, added: “We review thousands of pieces of content every day. Of course, we make an occasional mistake. When this happens we work quickly to resolve the issue.”
Middleton’s boyfriend Jonathan Ross has not had his account removed, despite sharing his name with the television presenter.
