Gorillaz launch pop-up experience Spirit House for fans
OHMYGOSSIP — Gorillaz have invited fans to visit their new “immersive” pop-up experience ‘Spirit House’.
The virtual band – created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett – recently unveiled the track-list for their first album in six years, ‘Humanz’, and have announced they will have three pop-ups in Berlin, New York and Amsterdam this April and May, which will allow fans in those cities to experience “high-tech sounds” and “unearthly visuals” in a collaboration with speaker brand Sonos.
The animated band was conceived by Damon and visual artist Jamie in 1998 and is comprised of animated characters 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russell Hobbs – none of the personas are reflective of the real life musicians involved in the project.
Of the new experience for fans, Murdoc said: “Come and bate in high-tech sound, feast on unearthly visuals, and let the experience take you on the ultimate trip.”
The eerie Spirit House features in their latest music video for the song ‘Saturn Barz’ and will be in the Big Apple from April 21 to 23, Berlin from April 28 to 30 and in Amsterdam in the Netherlands on May 6 only.
For fans living in the UK, the group recently announced their new festival Demon Dayz, which will come to Margate’s amusement park Dreamland in Kent on June 10.
The festival – is a nod to their second album ‘Demon Days’ which was released in 2005 – and will feature appearances from the likes of Noel Gallagher, Graham Coxon, Jehnny Beth, De La Soul and Grace Jones, who all contributed to ‘Humanz’.
Damon recently revealed: “We’ve got pretty much everyone who’s on the record here. A few people couldn’t make it because they had other stuff that was booked in beforehand. But they’ll be all here when we play Margate. I’m not going to introduce everyone because I’d spend the whole evening doing that.”
