Daniel Radcliffe would find Potter return strange
OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Radcliffe would feel “strange” playing Harry Potter again.
The 27-year-old actor shot to fame as the boy wizard in the movie series and though he would never rule out a return, he is “happy and secure” enough for someone else to portray the character, especially if stage production ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ – which depicts his magical alter ego as a 40-year-old married father – gets turned into a film.
He said: “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do. But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.
“At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”
And the British star joked he worried if he made a return, it would be met with criticism and “sour” the original film series.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to ‘Potter’, there’s a chance we’d make what ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was to the original ‘Star Wars’, but there’s also the chance that we’d make ‘Phantom Menace’.
“So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”
Daniel insists he has no idea about any of the details of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, author J.K. Rowling’s spin-off tale which is set in the same wizarding universe as Harry Potter, but doesn’t think lead actor Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander, will be coming to him for any tips.
He joked: “He’s an Oscar winner, dude, he doesn’t need my advice.”
Daniel recently admitted he is unsure if he will see ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ because he is worried his presence in the audience might distract from what is going on on stage.
He said: “It would be a weird one. I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there’s going to be a lot of ‘Harry Potter’ fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing?
“Would it be more about them watching me watch the show or would it take away from the show. I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show.
“I don’t know, I’m not sure.”
