Diane von Furstenberg: Being bitchy doesn’t cause success
OHMYGOSSIP — Diane von Furstenberg insists women don’t have to be “bitches” to have successful careers. The 67-year-old fashion designer has claimed that her new television show ‘The House of DVF’ will “empower” women because it shows that they don’t have to be aggressive to get to the top of their workplace.
She explained:”As I get older I can share my experience and know-how and become a mentor to young people. My mission in life at this point is to empower women.
“I was offended by some recent TV shows because I thought they objectified women and weren’t empowering. You don’t have to be a bitch to be successful.
“Many people wanted me to be involved in their TV show. I thought it could be fun but I didn’t like any of the suggestions offered to me until a year ago when a friend suggested I should have a beautiful woman go round the world and be my ambassador. I thought it was a good idea for a television show.”
The E! series will follow several ladies as they compete to be an ambassador for Diane’s clothing and accessory line.
Talking about the audition process, Diane told Hello! magazine: “I helped pick the girls. My only condition was that nothing was fake, everything had to be real. My show is funny and entertaining because the girls are incredible characters. It’s also informative about what happens in a fashion house. You don’t need to hide anything, all the drama is there – you just have to film it.”
