Peter Copping joins Oscar de la Renta
OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Copping is the new creative director at Oscar de la Renta. The Brit-born designer has announced he will join the New York-based fashion house as creative director after exiting the same position at Nina Ricci in Paris earlier this month.
It will be the first time the high fashion brand will be helmed by someone other than its namesake founder, Oscar, 82, who will continue to oversee the label’s design aesthetic.
Peter – who studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London – told WWD: “After a career of 20 years in Paris, this is an important next step for me.
“Oscar de la Renta has defined American elegance for generations of women, and the opportunity to work with him and help ensure the future of the brand is very exciting.”
The fashion designer – whose position at Nina Ricci has since been filled by Guillaume Henry – will show his first collection for the luxury label during the Fall/Winter 2015 shows at New York Fashion Week in February next year.
He will report to Oscar and the brand’s CEO Alex Bolen.
